About Dawn

Why am I coffee stained and why do I lead a coffee stained life?  Well, to start with I’m not the tidiest person around and have been known to drip coffee down my front when drinking. I’m not perfect, but I’ve learned to live with it, and thankfully, so has my family.

I have many interests and excel at none.  I’ve never been able to focus on just one pursuit and become an expert in that field.  But I keep trying.  I graduated with a degree in visual communication and so appreciate design, colors, patterns, and textures wherever I go.  I appreciate a good logo, a beautiful photograph, or a cool abstract painting when I see them. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest all my life and love it.  The Pacific ocean 2 hours away or snow on Mt. Hood or Mt. St Helens 2 hours away.  Love it.

I love baking, pen & ink illustrations, strong black coffee, writing children’s books, gardening, photography, travel, antiques, afternoon tea, and genealogy.

And I love music. I listen to the Beatles, Crosby Stills & Nash, The Pretenders, Bob Marley, Martin Stephenson & the Dainties, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, British folk music, Billie Holiday,  medieval lute music, Glen Campbell, the Carpenters, and oh, so many others.  In other words, I have varied tastes.  I find the appropriate music to fit my mood.  When cooking I prefer the French Cafe music on Pandora.  In the summer it’s reggae.  On a rainy day its George Freidrich Handel.  Driving in the car is my personal karaoke time, as I love to sing.  High school choir trained me to attempt 3 part harmony on my own.  (Glad I only do it when driving alone. )

As a result, my blog will cover a range of subjects – I could never just focus on one – which is probably to my detriment, but if you’ve found me, I’m glad to have you along!

My little experiment blogging will follow me along as I transition from stay-at-home mom to empty nester (happening faster than I believed possible!)  I am in the process of growing an on-line business with my sister called Flaunt Boots & Accessories, which I do a separate blog for on WordPress called Flaunt Your Style.  I also am a contributor to the travel website BestoftheNorthwest.com which is a resource for people thinking about traveling to the Northwest – what to do, what to see.  Never fear, I won’t be promoting my business on my personal blog.  This is just for me.  Well, and you, if you choose!
